Ground breaking Gene Therapy Treatment

bionic-eye-funding

Could this be the cure for many types of inherited blindness?

A small study conducted by the University of Oxford could lead to potential cures for common causes of vision loss including Macular Degeneration.

This treatment involves injecting a harmless virus carrying a copy of the CHM gene directly into the retina. It has now been found that correcting

faulty genes even before the disease has started is the most effective path. The article states, “Jonathon Wyatt who was the first patient in the

world to be treated with gene therapy now has doubled the vision in his treated left eye.”
